Education Minister calls for establishment of TVET of Job Placement Centres

The Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has advocated the establishment of Job Placement and Incubation Centres in all Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to monitor the progress of students after school.

The centres according to him, would become a one-stop shop for employers to recruit skills for their industries thus making TVET more relevant in easing unemployment in the country.

The Minister said these yesterday in Accra when he inaugurated an 11-member Governing Board for the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education Training.

The members were Nana Wereko Ampim- Poku (Chairman), Mrs Felicia Boakye Yiadom, Mrs Constance Swaniker, Dr Fred Kyei Asamoah (Director-General of the Commission), Mrs Catherine Appiah-Pinkrah and Mrs Emma Ofori Agyeman.

The rest include John Mensah Anang, Dr Helen Essandoh, James Asare Adjei, Mrs Aretha Ama Graham Addai and the Director-General of TVET.

The Minister said though their mandate included monitoring, evaluation and supervision of infrastructures, his priority in seeking the transformation of TVET was to create more space for policies implementation and their outcomes.

He said tracking the progress of the students after school would give an idea of how the students were faring after school which invariably could indicate how TVET was impacting on societal needs.

Dr Adutwum also tasked the board to ensure that the dual education system, a hybrid of combining classroom work and field work weekly was implemented to allow the students to gain more experience out of class before graduation.

Nana Ampim Poku on his part, thanked the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the confidence reposed in them to promote skills development in order to accelerate industrialisation in the country.

He said his team was well aware of the enormous premium the President put on  TVET with provision of state- of -art equipment and institutions all aimed at strengthening skill development to enhance job creation.

Mr Ampim- Poku promised that the new Board would discharge their mandate satisfactorily for the betterment of the country.
