ECG to supply 156,000 prepaid meters to Ashanti Region

Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has stressed its determination to supply prepaid meters to all homes in the Ashanti Region.

According to the company, 156,000 prepaid meters were expected to arrive soon to ensure that meter challenges were solved in the region.

Mr David Boadi Asamoah, Director of the ECG in Ashanti, disclosed this at a meeting with the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, on Tuesday.

The meeting formed part of the minister’s tour of some selected government institutions to familiarise himself with the progress of work in the various jurisdictions.

He mentioned that the Afari Hospital and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital substations had been commissioned.

On the sub-transmission improvement projects within the Ashanti Strategic Business Unit, he indicated that the construction of the Adansi Asokwa switching station was five per cent completed with interconnecting circuits.

The construction of the Asante Akyem Agogo substation, he said, was also 30 per cent completed with interconnecting circuits, while the provision of additional 33kv outdoor feeder bays and provision of associated panels at the Kuntanase switching station was 60 per cent completed.

Mr Osei Mensah urged the company to stand committed to giving the public quality service all year round, as he pledged the government’s commitment to supporting their undertakings.

The tour took the minister and his entourage also to the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), Feeder Road Department, and Urban Road Department.

At the Urban Road, the Ashanti Regional Director, Francis Gambrah, expressed concern about obstructions by some of the utility companies.

He noted that cables were causing lot of inconveniences to their work saying “apart from the inconveniences, the costs involved were too much”.

But, the Regional Minister gave the assurance to meet with such utility companies to rectify the situation for smooth operations.
