EC biometric system needs to be updated–Kwabena Bomfeh insists

The Acting General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr, has insisted that the Electoral Commission’s (EC’s) biometric data system needs an update, to avoid the new voters’ register consequently suffering without fixing the biometric system.

He explained that the challenges with the electoral system stem from the era of former Chairman of the Commission, from Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan through to Charlotte Osei and has to do with the biometric data system since the system was not promptly and properly updated from 2012, and Jean Mensa is not to blame but Dr Afari-Gyan and Mrs Osei are partly to blame.

“Nobody is entirely blamable and nobody is entirely blameless and Mrs  Mensa is not to blame for the issues regarding the country’s electoral system and it’s an erroneous notion held by opponents of the compilation of a new voters’ register that there is a ploy to rig this year’s election.

“There is no way a presidential candidate for any of the parties will genuinely have more votes to be declared victor in the elections and the Electoral Commission will rather pronounce that candidate a loser, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the compilation of a new voters’ register is borne out of the party’s lack of belief in the competence of the Electoral Commission.

“The NDC is just beating about the bush by saying that the Electoral Commission wants to rig the elections, but what the opposition party is really worried about is that they believe Mrs Mensa was appointed into office to do the bidding of President Nana Akufo-Addo.

“The NDC has an issue with Mrs Mensa but they’re not saying it, they’re not bold enough to say, they insinuate but don’t say it direct as the main reason, all the agitations is about the fact that they believe Mrs Mensa was brought in to rig the elections for President Akufo-Addo, that is the basis, the foundation  and they’re not saying it because they can’t prove it,” Mr Bomfeh Jnr asserted. -peacefmonline.com
