Drummer accused of defiling 16-year-old girl at church premises

A 22-year-old drummer, who allegedly defiled a 16-year-old girl at a church premises in Osu, in Accra, has appeared before the Gender Based Violence Court, at the Police Headquarters.

 James Asamoah, charged with carnal knowledge of a female, pleaded not guilty.

The relieving Circuit Court Judge, Mrs Dora Eshun, admitted Asamoah to GH¢30,000 bail with two sureties to reappear on September 23,  for Case Management Conference.

Chief Inspector Simon Tekpor, prosecuting said that the complainant was a trader residing at Osu with her daughter (the victim).

The court heard that Asamoah was a drummer in a church at Osu and the victim, a registered care receiver of Compassion Ghana, a nongovernmental organisation (NGO).

Chief InspTekpor said there was a ‘broken’ fenced wall between the Church and the accused residence and that the victim had been using the route to attend the NGO fellowship programmes.

Prosecution said Asamaoh took advantage of the girl’s autistic condition and lured her to the church premises and allegedly defiled her.

Chief InspTekporsaid luck eluded accused when a neighbour arrested him for having sex with the victim and handed him to the police at Cantonments, in Accra. -GNA
