Dreams FC draw Soccer Intellectuals in FA Cup quarterfinals

Defending MTN FA Cup champions, Dreams FC, have been drawn against Division One League (DOL) side, Soccer Intellectuals, in the quarter finals stage of this season’s competition.

The draw, held yesterday at the MTN House in Accra, will see the reigning champions host the game at the Theatre of Dreams at Dawu.

Dreams FC got to this stage after beating Susubiribi FC in the Round of 32 game and brushing aside Koforidua Semper Fi FC 4-1 in the Round of 16 stage.

Soccer Intellectuals secured their place in the quarterfinals with a 2-0 victory over Hohoe United.

The draw also pitched former champions, Bechem United, against fellow Premier League side, Legon Cities, with the latter hosting the clash.

Last season’s semifinalist, Nsoatreman FC, will battle Karela United while Bofoakwa Tano cross swords with Division One side, Skyy FC.

Speaking at the draw, the Senior Manager Brands and Communications at MTN Ghana, Germain Naatey, announced that MTN will for the next two years continue as the headline sponsor of the FA Cup tournament.

He said the company wants to create more fun and excitement around the competition, hence the introduction of the ‘MTN FA Cup Arena’ event, where there will be discussions on the game with a call-in segment for callers to answer questions and win prizes among a host of other activations.

“MTN is proposing to the GFA to consider gender inclusivity in its officiating, thus using an all-female officiating team to ensure that the women were not left out of the excitement.”

The Chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee, Wilison Arthur, announced that gates would be opened for free from the quarter-finals stage through to the finals for ladies and soccer fans under the age of 15 years.
