Don’t burden Assembly Members–Electorate admonished

Evelyn Aikins, an aspiring Assembly Member for Mantseman Electoral Area in Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region, has admonished the electorate against putting all their financial burdens on Assembly Members.

She noted that the mandate of the Assembly Members was to lobby for development and not to solve financial burdens of the electorate and residents and asked them to desist from such situations.

“Residents are using the district level electioneering to demand financial support and assistance from aspirants which has been the practice as some residents always expected assembly members to provide their needs and cautioned that it would deter some aspirants especially women from contesting.

“As an incumbent assembly member, female aspirants are at a disadvantage but some of us are unperturbed because women are best managers naturally, so we will soldier on My leadership skills and knowledge are evident in the work I did during my first term as assembly woman and I was able to lobby for the installation of a transformer in the area.

“Through my efforts, the assembly and other stakeholders provided for the electoral area streetlights, electrical poles, speed rumps, bridges, drainage system and a basketball court and since water and sanitation facility was one of my priorities, I mobilised the youth for communal labour at least every two months. I appeal to residents to vote for me to continue the good works I started,” Madam Aikins stressed. -GNA
