Confirming the incident to the Ghanaian Times, the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ebenezer Tetteh explained that on May 2, at about 10pm, the police on duty at Adeambra-Donkokrom road intercepted the suspect with his teenage daughter, Alimatu Sadia Abubakar crying on the motorcycle while they were heading toward the pontoon landing stage.

He said when the police questioned the suspect on why his daughter was crying, he alleged that he was sending her to stay with her grandmother who was living in Nigeria.
