DOL: A5 Rences, Elmina Sharks pick wins
Struggling A5 Rences ended their first round of the 2022/23 Zone 3 Division One League (DOL), with a 2-1 victory over debutants Volta Rangers at the Tema Sports Stadium on Saturday.
The Tema-based outfit have now recorded their second win of the campaign, having won just a single game, lost five and drew eight in 15 games.
Rences earlier shared spoils with former Premier League candidates, Tema Youth, last weekend in a pulsating 0-0 draw and needed a win to keep their status in shape.
It was a spirited performance from Rences, who came back from a goal down to score two goals in both halves.
Rangers struck first as early as the seventh minute through Benjamin Nyefene, with a cool finish outside the penalty box.
After the half hour mark, Richard Jones-Mensah pulled the leveller for Rences with a thunderbolt strike.
With 10 minutes left to play, Enoch Afro scored what proved to be the winner with a teasing header from a corner-kick.
In Zone 1A, Kumbun Binbiem picked a slim 1-0 victory over Maana FC, courtesy a late first half goal from Abdulai Rashad.
A 15th minute strike from Abdul Latif Rahim gave Kassena Nankana the much needed victory to secure a 1-0 win over Wa Yaasin FC.
Former Premier League campaigners, Elmina Sharks, recorded a massive 4-1 triumph over Holy Stars in Zone 2.
Goals from Alhassan Adamu, Benjamin Eshun, Abdul Karim Bukari and Alhassan Adamu gave Sharks their fourth win of the season.
Richmond Somiah pulled a late consolation for the hosts.
