Dodze chiefs, queenmothers applaud President for appointing Dodze natives to serve in govt

The Chiefs and Queenmothers of Dzodze Traditional Area in the Volta Region have commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his decision to appoint a number of natives of Dzodze to serve in his government.

They said the President had made them proud by appointing the likes of Kofi Dzamesi as the Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, Pius Hadzide, Deputy Minister of Information and Johnson Avuletey, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, among other natives of Dzodze

Additionally, they said the President had appointed some of their indigenes to serve in his administration as ambassadors to some foreign countries.

The traditional leaders said this when they called on the President at the Jubilee House in Accra yesterday.

Spokesperson for the council, Torgbui Dey III, in an address also expressed gratitude to the government for the numerous interventions to develop their communities.

He said the government had elevated the status of the Ketu South District to a municipality to facilitate the development of the area, constructed a warehouse to store farm produce to avoid post-harvest losses, made Senior High School education free for all children in the area, among others.

“We commend and thank you for your strong leadership since you took over the reins of government. Your audacious and life-changing policies have inspired hope in us and we are excited about the future of this country and our children.”

“As chiefs, we are not oblivious of the fact that we are not politicians, but we have interest in the development of our communities. We are seeing transformation in our communities, in the lives of our people and we can see a brighter future for the next generation,” he said.

He said although people had the right to offer constructive criticisms when things went bad, praise ought to be given when it was due and thanked the government for introducing pro-poor policies to improve the conditions in their communities.

“The act of acknowledging our leaders when they do well is missing in our body politics. Even when your rival is more handsome that you, you have to acknowledge it.”

“We must give praise where it is due. As traditional leaders, we echo the voices and sentiments of our people. We express their pain in difficulty and share their joy when they are happy,” he said.

Torgbui Dey III presented a number of petitions to the President, including a new market at Dzodze, upgrading of the Ho-Aflao road which passes through Dzodze, as well as the Dzodze town roads.

He also appealed to the government to consider extending Medium and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) loans to the youth and women in their communities to support their small businesses.

President Akufo-Addo, on his part, thanked the traditional leaders for expressing appreciation for the numerous interventions to improve the living conditions in their area.

He said such kind words inspired him and gave him the comfort that the work he was doing was having positive impact on people.

“The government of former President Kufuor made the Ketu North a district, and the second NPP government has elevated you into municipality,” he said and noted that the government’s goal was to extend development in all parts of the country.

Touching on the people from Dzodze serving in his administration, he said he did not select them to appease the chiefs and people in the community but rather, based on their merit and ability to help move the nation forward.

President Akufo-Addo pledged to address the petitions presented before him to bring development in the area.

He expressed his government’s commitment to fight corruption in the country and indicated that anyone found culpable would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

However, he noted that he would not condemn anyone without basis, simply because they had been accused of being corrupt.
