DJs UNION OF GHANA CONSTITUTED

Ghanaian Disc Jockeys, popularly known as DJs, have unveiled a newly formed union called Union of Ghana DJs (DJUGA).

It is the only umbrella body of DJs in Ghana with an objective to secure the complete organisation of all DJs for their mutual protection and advancement.

The establishment of the DJs union which is yet to be launched is a rare opportunity that will put DJs in Ghana in the spotlight.

“The vision is to produce professional DJs that will meet international standards. So, this is to establish a platform where DJs are viewed as professionals. In other countries DJ profession is a paying job and we want the industry to realise that this is actually a profession,” one of the executives told BEATWAVES.

The formation of the union which has received heartwarming welcome and endorsements from industry greats such as Kuami Eugene, KiDi, Andy Dosty, Ahuma Bosco Ocansey (Daddy Bosco) among others, has a prime objective to advance members’ knowledge and skills.

“One of our core objectives is to regulate members’ relations with their employers or employers’ associations, and with each other,” acting president of the union, Kwame Adu Gyamfi (DJ Killa Fingers) said.

A member of the union, DJ Vyrusky, who is also Best DJ of the Year 2020 at the Ghana DJ Awards, told TV3 in an interview last Saturday that “DJs in Ghana have waited for too long to see this union in motion. It’s a good initiative. We now have a structure.”

“We are going to work to maximise the employment and overall income of DJs as well as protecting and improving working conditions. We also offer advice, support and legal assistance based on every individual member’s needs,” affirms Daniel Badu, the union’s organising secretary.

DJs Union of Ghana is the Ghana trade union for all DJs representing around 1,000 members working across the music industry. It stands up for employed and self-employed DJs working in every area of the Ghana music industry, including mobile DJs.
