US carrier, Delta Air Line has reaffirmed its commitment to take action against social issues like climate change, poverty, and inequality.
It is in furtherance of this, that Delta in partnership with Global Citizen joined artists, world leaders, corporations, philanthropists and individuals at the Global Citizen Festival held at the Black Star Square in Accra over the weekend.
The event, the biggest sound engineering and first of its kind in Ghana also marked the 65th anniversary of Ghana’s independence and the 20th anniversary of the African Union.
Mr Jimmy Eichelgruen, head of Commercial activities for Africa, Middle East and the Indian Sub-Continent, speaking in an interview said the airline believed in a future for aviation where “you never have to choose between seeing the world and saving it; that is why we are taking action across our business”.
The Sales Manager of Delta in Ghana, Ms Eloina Baddoo said the mission of Delta Airline was to make meaningful changes towards a more sustainable future and ensure the “miracle of flight remains accessible for generations to come”.
She assured that Delta would remain dedicated to accelerating the availability of sustainable aviation fuels to driving innovation for the aircraft of the future.
Ms Baddoo said Delta which had served Ghana for almost 16 years extended invitations to colleagues in the industry, customers, and the media to join them in taking action against poverty and inequality against girls.
“Delta supports women and girls through its long-standing partnership with Breast Care International (BCI), an organisation that informs women about breast cancer issues and facilitates screening activities in several rural communities across the country, she said.
Since its inception in December 2006, According to Ms Baddoo Delta continues to operate daily nonstop service from Accra to New York John F. Kennedy (JFK).
The Airline she said had extensive onward connectivity at JFK for customers travelling on Ghana flights adding that apart from Ghana, it operates nonstop service from three other destinations in Africa namely Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa.
