District Chief Executives (DCEs) for West Gonja in the Savannah and Birim North in the Eastern Region have assured their communities of more development projects to reduce poverty and improve sustainable community livelihoods.
Saeed Jibril, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the West Gonja District in the Savannah Region and Raymond Damptey, the District Chief Executive of Birim North, stressed that the government was determined, dedicated and committed to bring more development to the communities.
The DCEs gave the assurance when they paid working visits to their respective communities to interact with residents to explain to them government flagship policies and intervention programmes geared towards addressing community-driven challenges.
Mr Jibril, who spoke at separate community durbars, noted that the government’s flagship policies such as Planting for Food and Jobs, One Village One Dam, One District One Factory as well as the Free Senior High School (SHS) were implemented to address community-driven challenges.
“The district will benefit more from implementation of flagship policies, plans by government are progressing steadily towards their implementation and provisions to get the rest of the communities connected to the national electricity grid by the end of 2019, is on course.
“The Assembly will continue to invest and improve living standards through increased infrastructure, initiate numerous projects, improve the local economy as well as revenue mobilisation,” Mr Jibril noted.
Mr Damptey said the Assembly had planned to increase school infrastructure, teacher’s quarters, provision of furniture as well as teaching and learning materials and 100 students had received financial support and scholarships to motivate serious students in the district.
He said the beneficiary schools under the school feeding and Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty programmes had increased, skills training, business support for start-ups and the Assembly intends to put in more efforts to improve health, environment, water and sanitation of residents.
“We commended the efforts of the Member of Parliament for New Abirem for assisting in hooking 21 communities in the district to the national electricity grid, reshaping of most feeder roads in the district, efforts to re-construct the New Abirem- Nkawkaw road, construction of a market and rehabilitation of 10 lockable stores at Ntronang,” Mr Damptey noted.
The community members expressed gratitude to the DCEs for the timely visit and expressed readiness to take full advantage of government flagship policies and intervention programmes to contribute to development of the country. –GNA
