The Achimota Golf Club (AGC) in Accra will host the maiden edition of the Danny List Foundation Invitational golf tournament scheduled for January 21.
Dubbed ‘Golf 4 Change’, the event is expected to have in attendance over 36 young amateur golf players drawn from Ghana, La Cote d’Ivoire.
Danny List, Founder of the foundation told a media conference yesterday that the event was aimed at giving young players an experience while using the platform to unearth talents from Ghana and Africa.
According to the pro golfer, the 9-hole tournament will be climaxed with an Awards and Dinner night at the La Beach Hotel.
He said there will be competition in boys and girls U-15 and U-18 categories with a few seniors expected to make an appearance to spice the event.
Mr List hinted of plans to establish a multipurpose golf academy in the country that can rival some of the best in the advanced countries as the Foundation hopes to raise a new generation of golfers.
“This is a big opportunity for us to discover new talents in golf. I am sure others are doing similar things but my foundation will take it a notch higher. Our aim is to train new golfers.”
Ms Angela List, a Director of the foundation welcomed the concept which she said would give the youngsters a good platform to exhibit their skills.
According to her, Ghana lacks the numbers in terms of golf courses and makes it difficult for the youngsters to practice regularly.
Ms Rebecca Donkor, also a Director of the Foundation urged the media to support the project she believes to will take golf to the doorstep of every underprivileged child that wants to have a career in golf.
