The Ministry of Roads and Highways is taking steps to rehabilitate damaged roads in the Tamale metropolis and districts in the Northern Region.
Several bridges and drainages within Tamale metropolis and some parts of the region were severely damaged, as a result of Monday’s heavy rains in the region.
Some district capitals had been completely cut-off from the regional capital and other adjoining districts.
Mr Kwasi Amoako-Atta, the Minister of Roads and Highways who stated these Wednesday emphasised that all the roads destroyed by the latest floods would be worked on as soon as possible.
The minister was in the region to access the extent of destruction of the roads by the recent torrential rains.
Mr Amoako-Atta stated that the government was committed to addressing the challenges confronting the people.
He said since the destructions were a natural disaster, the ministry would mobilise the needed resources to fix the roads.
The minister, therefore, directed the engineers to, as matter of urgency, come out with their “designs and drawings” for the work to be awarded to competent contractors.
Mr Amoako-Atta observed that destructions were huge, but indicated they would be “fixed in no time.”
He pleaded with victims to bear with the government, as efforts were being made to assiduously put roads in good shape.
The minister stated that the Tamale drainages needed to be redesigned since the metropolis was expanding rapidly.
