The Member of Parliament (MP), for La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA), Ms Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, on Friday advised candidates writing this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) not to engage themselves in distractive activities during their examination period.
“Activities such as watching TV, going for social events, visiting relatives and friends will not only distract their attention of study time but also prevent your progress,” Ms Sowah said.
The MP gave the advice when she did a symbolic presentation of mathematical sets and pens to selected candidates from different private schools taking part in this year’s BECE in the municipality.
She said the items were purchased from the MPs’ Common Fund with the aim of motivating and encouraging students to give out their best during the exams.
According to Ms Sowah, it was not too late for the candidates to seek further explanation and clarification on challenging topics from their teachers at school before or during the examination periods ends.
The MP reminded the candidates that, the only way to make it from Junior High School (JHS) to the Senior High School (SHS) successfully was to pass the up-coming exams with flying colours.
She thanked the teachers and all who had prepared the students through “thick and thin” for the exams and asked them not to relent in their efforts to help all students who pass through their schools.
Madam Habiba Kutumah, Municipal Education Director indicated that a total of 3,426 candidates were participating in this year’s examination with 2418 from the public schools and 1,008 from the private schools.
Ms Kutumah added that about 1,158 boys and 1,260 girls from the public schools with 508 boys and 500 girls from the private schools would be stationed at 10 examination centres across the municipality during the exams.
According to the Municipal Director, all was set for the examination and all they were praying for was life and a good weather to enable the students to start the exams.
Some teachers and students at the programme thanked the MP for the gesture.
A total of 552,276 candidates, comprising 276,988 males and 275,288 females are expected to sit for the examination at 2,023 designated Centres throughout the country.
