Csir inducts new deputy director general and director of finance

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, (CSIR), on Wednesday sworn in Professor Marian Dorcas Quain and Dr William Sarfo as new deputy Director General and Director of Finance respectively.

The brief induction ceremony was attended by several high profile personalities, families, friends and well-wishers.

Prof Quain will oversee the development and execution of research and development activities of all the 13 research institutes of the council; mobilise funds for research and development activities; establish effective linkages with relevant institutions and agencies within and outside the CSIR; oversee the transfer of the results of research in science and technology and coordinate the Commercialisation activities of corporate CSIR.

Meanwhile, Mr William Sarfo would oversee the financial matters of the institutes, undertake preparation of budget, formulate and update financial reports for management, supervise and train all accounting staff.

Prof Quain until her appointment was the Chief Research Scientist with the CSIR-Crops Research Institute and an associate professor of the CSIR College of Science and Technology (CCST) while Mr Sarfo was the Finance Director of the Ghana Communication Technology University

Robert Kingsford Adaboh, Council Chair of CSIR swearing them into office said CSIR was the backbone of the country’s scientific research mandated to carry out scientific and technological research for national development  and that he was hopeful the new sworn in officers would help project the work of the Council.

“I have no doubt that these two pairs will do a wonderful job” he stated.

He said CSIR had chalked successes in coming up with technologies in crop and animal production, agro-processing and value addition, building and road construction, environmental management and industrial manufacturing,

In the area of food security he said, farmers in the country are using improved varieties of maize, rice, groundnut, soybean, yam, cassava and millet developed by CSIR.

Prof Paul Bosu, Director General of CSIR applauded them for their appointment while charging them to excel in their various work of endeavour.
