Creation of new regions not for political gain but…–Dan Botwe

The Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Dan Botwe, has maintained that the creation of the six new regions was not for political gains but to jump-start growth, development and distribute resources to uninhabited areas.

He explained that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) built on the traditions of the pre-independent United Party, and created the new regions but not for political gains since the president exercised the executive courage needed in leadership.

“The president exercises the executive courage needed in leadership because politics is all about satisfying the deep aspirations of the people, so in governance you should have leadership with good heart and good love,” Mr Botwe said.

Addressing traditional authorities and people of the Oti Region during a working tour by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the enclave, the minister pointed out that “we are politicians, but sometimes he scolds us when we do too much politics, and will say no, first and foremost is equitable progress, growth and development of the country.

“He would say whether or not we are voted for is not important, that is what we are seeing with the creation of long sought regions and an issue the people of Oti could do to show appreciation for the creation of the region, was votes, but thank God we are lucky we have a president who does not consider that so we will continue to do what we have to do,” Mr Botwe assured.

According to him, contrary to the viewpoint of political opponents, the creation of the new regions jump-started progress, growth, development and distributed resources to uninhabited areas, and the government would pursue their progress, growth and development.

Mr Botwe encouraged them the president was not disappointed and that development programmes he had tasked appointees based on blueprint from January 2019 was what they were following to the letter, showed more interest in equitable development than relating to NPP, and had placed himself to secure the needs of the citizenry.

He described President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as being more committed, determined and dedicated to the nation’s progress, growth and development. -GNA
