The Women’s Academy Fore Africa (WAFA) has embarked on a training programme for Convention People’s Party (CPP) women on resource mobilisation and fundraising to enhance the democratic processes in Ghana and Africa.

The programme is exclusively for the promotion of gender equality, empowerment, political advancement of women, how to participate in political activities, decision making processes, educate women on ideology, principles of social democracy, empowerment of women with leadership tools to actively participate in all political and electoral processes.

A four-day workshop with sponsorship from the Westminister Foundation through Labour Party of United Kingdom dubbed, ‘Being Selected and Mobilising Resources’, aimed at training women in the CPP on how to participate in political activities and decision making processes has been organised in Accra.

Hajia Zeliya Ibrahim, the resource person at the programme, observed that women representation in politics was very low adding that, there was the need to build the capacity of women to get more women on board in decision making since they were competent and were capable of participating in politics when given the nod.

Hajia Hamdatu Haruna, Commissioner in charge of West Africa for WAFA, in her address, noted that their leading value was gender equality based on social democratic and socialist concepts of democracy, good governance, social justice and solidarity.

“The programme is to educate women on how to avail themselves for political positions in the CPP and how they can mobilise resources and raise funds for their political activities,” she said.

Kwabena Bomfeh Junior, the Acting General Secretary of CPP, indicated that the training would enable the women to learn and be equipped with new skills, knowledge and be invigorated to mobilising and organising the party at grassroots level.

“The programme is for trainers who will go and train others in the constituency to be well empowered women to be able to mobilise persons and resources at the party level for the growth and development of the party. -GNA
