COVID-19 update: Greater Accra Region tops 2,650

Active cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) keep increasing in the country with Greater Accra Region leading with 2,650 as of July 28, 2021.

The Ashanti and Eastern regions have 1,323 and 220 active cases respectively.

Per the Ghana Health Service situational board, the total number of persons infected by the virus are 104, 330 of which 97,970 have recovered.

The total active cases currently stands at 5,524 with 17 persons and 86 others in critical and severe conditions respectively.

The national death toll has risen to 836.

The GHS indicates that 541 new cases have been recorded with 263 cases coming from Greater Accra Region, 78 from the Ashanti Region and 11 from the Eastern Region.

The cases from 18 districts in the Greater Accra Region reveal that 79 were from routine surveillance and 184 from contact tracing. They include: Ayawaso West,122; Accra, 30; Okaikoi North, 25; Korle Klottey, 19; Ayawaso North, 13; Ga Central,10; Adentan, seven; Ga North, seven; La Dadekotopon, five; La Nkwantanang Madina, five; Ayawaso East, four; Ledzokuku, four; Tema West, four; Ayawaso Central, three; Weija Gbawe, two; Ga West, one; Shai Osudoku, one  and Tema, one.

For the Ashanti Region, nine districts recorded 78 cases while in Eastern Region, one district recorded 11 cases.

Recoveries in the Greater Accra, Ashanti and Eastern regions are 53,528, 16,803 and 4,572 respectively.

Other regions like the Central, Volta, Bono, Bono East, Oti, recorded new cases while eight regions includingUpper East and West, Northern, North East, Western North, Western, Ahafo and Savannah recorded no new cases.

The Ghana Health Service has urged the public to adhere to the preventive measures such as washing of hands often with soap and water, observing social distancing, and avoiding close contact with people who are sick so as to curb the spread of the virus.
