Court places injunction on NPP Asante Mampong elections

The Asante Mampong High Court in the Ashanti Region, has placed injunction on the internal party elections at the Asante Mampong constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This came after the court merged the case files of 35 NPP Mampong Polling Station Executives, led by Mr Kofi Sarpong, against NPP Mampong Constituency Executives.

According to the statement of claims, the constituency chairman, Mr Asare Luther, has denied thousands of party members the right to obtain forms for polling station elections in the constituency because they were not on his side or camp.

At the fourth hearing of the case at the Mampong High Court, presiding judge Justice George Appah Kwarbeng, adjourned the case to June 10, 2022.

Before any elections could be held, the court ordered both parties to settle the dispute using NPP National Executive Council (NEC) recommendations and submit the final results to Mampong Court on June 10, 2022.

After the court adjourned the case, Mr Sarpong, the leader of the 35 Polling Station Executives, in an interview with journalists, accused the leadership of the party of stalling the Mampong internal elections.

He appealed to the NPP National Executive Council to allow justice to be served in the case, stating that “unless this is done, the case will not be resolved”.
