Court orders arrest of bank manager for‘embezzling’ GH¢480,000

A Sefwi Bekwai Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a former bank manager of Sinapi Aba Savings and Loans, for allegedly embezzling GH¢480,000, belonging to the bank.

Samuel Attah Aggrey, 35, was reported to have diverted GH¢166,520 being customer deposit, stolen GH¢278,820 from the bank’s vault and withdrawing GH¢34,660 from electron Beam lon Trap (EBIT) of the Sefwi Bekwai branch of the bank.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Western North Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP)Micheal Nkekesi, who confirmed the story to the Ghanaian Times, yesterday, said the former bank manager forged the bank’s records and received customers deposits.

He said the complainant in the case, was Joseph Kingsley Karikari, area manager at the head office of the bank at Kumasi.

ASP Nkekesi said according to the complainant, records at the Sefwi Bekwai branch of the bank revealed that Aggrey absconded.

The Police PRO said an internal audit conducted revealed that Aggrey without the knowledge and consent of customers applied for loans on their behalf, and upon approval by the bank he diverted the money.

ASP Nkekesi stated that Aggrey forged the bank’s  records, received customer’s deposits and printed his own certificate of transaction for customers.

The Police PRO said deposits were not entered into the reporting system of the bank, adding that monies stolen through loan diversion and customer deposit amounted to GH¢166,520.00.

ASP Nkekesi appealed to the public to provide reliable information for the arrest of the former bank manager.
