An Accra Circuit Court has granted GH₵80,000.00 bail with three sureties to a petty trader, for allegedly stealing a motor tricycle, popularly known as “Aboboyaa”.
Gerald Yovo, 28, denied the charge of stealing, and the court presided over by Mrs Evelyn Asamoah, adjourned the case to May 12, 2022.
Chief Inspector Benson Benneh told the court that the complainant, Abigail Sackey, was a proprietress of a pure water factory, at Chorkor, and accused resided at Beach Road, a suburb of Dansoman, Accra.
Prosecution said Timothy Wayne, a witness in the case, recommended accused to the complainant to work with, adding that MsSackeybought a Luojia tricycle, valued at GH₵14,000.00for Yovo to supply sachet water to customers.
Chief InspBenneh said accused was asked to park the tricycle at the factory after work, but he ignored the directive.
The court heard that accused took the tricycle home without the consent of the complainant and also failed to go to work.
Chief InspBennehsaid authorities of the company contacted accused on phone, but he did not answer the calls.
Prosecution said that when the complainant traced accused to his hideout at Agege, a suburb of Dansoman,he (accused)said the tricycle was missing.
Chief InspBennehsaid complainant reported the case to the police, leading to the arrest of Yovo.
Prosecution said accused in a caution statement said he woke up and realised that the tricycle had been stolen.
Chief InspBenneh said accused claimed he reported the case to the police at Shiabu, but investigations revealed he (Yovo) did not report any case to the police. -GNA
