The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Sekondi-Takoradi, Abdul- MuminIssah, has appealed to residents to cooperate with contractors working on phase one of the dualisation of Takoradi-Sekondi project.
Work, which is currently underway, he noted, was part of the expansion projects to reduce congestion on roads within the metropolis.
Mr Issah made the appeal in a sessional address he delivered at the second ordinary meeting of the third session of the eighth Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), which opened yesterday.
He added “I appeal to residents of this metropolis, to assist and cooperate with the contractor on this project for smooth and successful completion. This is the first time we are having this project of such a magnitude and so those property owners including containers and kiosks, should cooperate by giving way to the works, no matter the inconveniences. We know there will be some difficulties, but we’ll soon see the benefits of this new development.”
Phase one of the project, Mr Issah explained, would begin from the PTC interchange with four lanes through STC to Shippers roundabout, then from Shippers to Harbour roundabout (Atlantic junction), also three lanes.
Another section also passing through Harbour gate,Post Office to Good News roundabout would be a dual carriage.
The MCE continued “Again from ECG (PobeeBiney road) through Good News to Harbour, De-graft Johnson Avenue shall be a four-lane dual carriage. Similarly, Monkey Hill to GOIL Installation junction will have six-lane dual carriage, and continued with four-lane through EffiaNkwanta Hospital junction, Adiembra to the Essikado junction.”
The Butuah lagoon bridge would carry three lanes to allow future expansion, he said, adding that the second phase would see another interchange from ECG to Paa Grant roundabout.
On updates on the PTC interchange overhead, MrIssahreported that work on a four-lane dual carriageway with the Kwame Nkrumah overhead maintained, was ongoing.
However, he added, the Liberation Road remained unchanged while the Agona road would drop at Shoprite junction.
“Work at the site is about 58.82 per cent completed and it is estimated that the project should be completed between June and July, 2023, but, the actual date of inauguration is yet to be confirmed,” he stated.
According to MrIssah, few buildings along the PTC-Cape Coast stretch to be affected included the Edzii Filing Station with the fuel dump to be relocated along the Accra-Takoradi Stretch.
All ATMs and vulcanising shops and fence wall of Asempa Hotel at the site would also be affected,while the utility lines would also be relocated, he told the House.
On other developments, the MCE said, currently, arrangements were underway for the construction of a multi-purpose car park at the beach road taxi rank in Takoradi, a haulage truck terminal at Sofokrom and a bus terminal at Nkroful.
He said in pursuance of proposals from Lidwala Consulting Engineers and Asare-Ab Company respectively, a Memorandum of Understanding between the STMA and these companies had been signed.
Opening the meeting, the Presiding Member, John Buckman, argued the adoption ofa workable fee-fixing resolution for revenue, the 2023 action plan and budget estimates, were “important documents for the survival of the assembly.”
