A water bottling and a warehousing manufacturing company at Apremdo, near Takoradi, Western Industries Limited, on Thursday donated relief items to the Appiatse Relief Camp, at Dumasi, near Bogoso, in the Prestea-Huni Valley municipality of the Western Region.

The donation worth GH¢70, 000, included food items, toiletries, bottled water, detergents, canned fish, smoked fishand cooking oil.

It was the company’s contribution towards the upkeep and welfare of Appiatseresidents, who suffered an explosion on the Tarkwa-WassaAkropong highway, on January 20.

The management also consoled the chiefs and elders of the community.

Presenting the items, the Managing Director of Western Industries, Mr Farouk Barakeh, said that, the company was saddened by the unfortunate incident, which occurred atAppiatse, and decided to visit and also “wish the victims well.”

He indicated the company’s readiness to offer more support to the people, especially the victims, assuring that “we’ll continue to work with National Disaster Management Organisation(NADMO) and other organisations as to how more help would come to the community.”

Mr Barakeh said “I wish to extend my appeal to all Ghanaians and other people in key positions to help in their small ways to address the needs of Appiatse community.A lot need to be done. Those that can support should move in here.

“We will continue to offer our support.I will contact individuals and organisations for more support for the people.”

The Camp Manager and Deputy Regional Coordinator of NADMO, Bright Adjei, expressed his thanks to Western Industries, saying “We are indeed overwhelmed by the donation.”

He appealed to other organisations and partners to support the people of Appiatse.

MrEbenezer Kwegyir, on behalf of the Chief of Brepo, Nana KojoAtta Brembi II, thanked Western Industries for supporting the victims, praying “May God bless you and your company.”

Meanwhile, management of the Appiatse Relief Camp has appealed to the corporate world and philanthropists to support the people with more tents to help accommodate displaced persons.

Mr Adjei said any support would help to monitor, provide protection and security for victims and some of those displaced, who resided at the Golden Hotel, at Bogoso.

“We need more of the tents. What we have now is not enough to accommodate extra people and the number keeps growing daily. For now, we have 882 persons including Bogoso Golden Hotel. Ideally, number of persons per tent should have been eight, that is, four on each side, but, now we have 15,” he stated.

Mr Adjei appealed for assorted food items like gari, beans, smoked fish, cooking oil and maize.
