Church of Pentecost provides boreholes to communities in Wa

The Wa Area of the Church of Pentecost has dedicated and handed over three boreholes with hand pumps to some communities in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region.

The facilities were drilled and handed over to the people of Yorkonteng, Metii and Gurungu after the problem of lack of potable drinking water in those communities were brought before the church.

In a symbolic handing over at Yorkonteng on Tuesday, the Area Head for Wa, Apostle Daniel Nii Tetteh Tackie, stated that the boreholes were drilled with support from the Pentecost Social Services (PENTSOS).

He indicated that the church opened an assembly at Yorkonteng in 2018 and received calls from some community members to assist them with a potable source of drinking water.

Apostle Tackie explained that two other communities with similar challenges were identified in addition to Yorkonteng and presented to PENTSOS for assistance and said the three facilities were products of the assistance received.

He was confident that the boreholes would help to reduce the number of water-borne diseases in the area, and therefore charged the community members to take care of the facilities by regular maintenance.

For her part, the District Chief Executive for the area, Ms Vida Diorotey, commended the church for the intervention and said it would go a long to ensure that over 1,500 residents were served with potable drinking water in the beneficiary communities and beyond.

She lamented the nature of the stream that was previously used by the communities and said it was demeaning for people to share drinking water with livestock and other animals.

Ms Doriotey used the opportunity to commend the church for other interventions to promote health, education as well as peace and security across the country and called on other organisations to emulate same and partner the government to develop the country.

In attendance at the hand-over were some chiefs and people from the respective communities, church members as well as Pastor Prince Dzramedo, resident Minister for the Gurumo District of the Church in which the beneficiary communities are located.
