Channel campaign towards COVID-19 combat — NPP parliamentary aspirants urged

Richard Takyi Mensah, the Central Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged parliamentary aspirants to channel their campaign energies towards the fight against the COVID-19 scourge due to the suspension of the presidential and parliamentary primaries.

He explained that with the suspension of the presidential and parliamentary primaries, there was the need for parliamentary aspirants to channel their campaign energies towards combating the COVID-19 scourge to curtail the spread which was getting alarming.

The NPP has had to suspend their parliamentary and presidential primaries due to the ban on public gathering as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic since the nation was not in normal times for such electoral activities.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) suspended its parliamentary primaries which was originally scheduled for April 25, 2020, to elect parliamentary candidates in constituencies where the party had sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) ahead of the 2020 General polls.

The decision to suspend the primaries was taken at a National Steering Committee meeting held on April 14, 2020, due to the ban on social gatherings as part of national efforts towards the containment of the pandemic.

Mr Mensah noted that “we are not in normal times and our presidential and parliamentary aspirants need to intensify their efforts now to help in the fight, some of our aspirants have joined the fight against the pandemic.

“They have donated Personal Protective Equipment to hospitals and clinics, Veronica buckets, face masks, soap and sanitisers to their constituents, but we encourage the others who have not donated to do so towards the safety of the citizenry,” he appealed -primenewsghana.com
