Change in methodology delayed MMDCEs nomination—E.T Mensah explains

Enoch Teye Mensah, a member of the Council of State, has explained that the delay in the released of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) can be attributed to the change of the methodology in the nominations.

He said there were several players in the value chain regarding the selection which may have caused the nine month delay and thinks issues happen because of other reasons.

“I am sure President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had some challenges that had to be resolved, you will recall this time round they changed the methodology for selection while they have various groups from the constituency levels through the region to the presidency, so it was a long haul.

The Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, the Chief of Staff and other prominent people also participated in it, naturally going through and looking at certain issues or information that you and I may not be privy to and I do not think there is the need for any brouhaha,” Mr Mensah noted.

Dan Botwe, the Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development released the list of the MMDCEs on September 19 but the government received flak for the delay in announcing the list.

For instance, Dr Richard Fiadomor, the President of the Chamber of Local Government (ChaLoG), claimed that the government had planned to avoid payment of the District Assembly Common Fund hence, the delay and insisted that delayed the government does not want to pay the District Assembly Common Fund for the year 2021 which was deliberate.

But Yaw Buaben Asamoa, the Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), said the comment was an opinion being expressed on the issue but not a fact and had expressed his opinion on the issue which had got nothing to do with the Common Fund. -3news.com
