CHAN Algeria 2022 qualifiers: Ghana, Nigeria clash late August

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released the dates for the final round of qualifiers for the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) Algeria 2022.

The Black Galaxies of Ghana is among six countries that would fight for the three available slots in the West Africa Zone B sub region.

Ghana will face Nigeria; Cote d’Ivoire have a date against Burkina Faso, while Togo and Niger slug it out in the other match.

The first leg matches are scheduled for the weekend of August 26-28, 2022 with the reverse fixture set for the weekend of September 2-4, 2022.

The Galaxies will host Nigeria in the first leg before travelling to Abuja for the return fixture as both teams battle for a ticket to the tournament in Algeria.

The Galaxies qualified to the final round of the qualifiers after recording a 1-0 win (4-0 aggregate) against Benin in the return leg of the preliminary round qualifiers last Saturday.

The Ghanaians had crushed their West African opponents 3-0 in the opening leg at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh netted the only goal of the match against Benin in Cotonou.

Ghana has yet to make it to the tournament since February 2014 when the Galaxies lost 4-3 to Libya at the Cape Town stadium to finish second. – Ghanafa.org
