The Cartel Foundation, a philanthropic arm of Cartel Group of Companies, yesterday organised a health walk at Mamprobi to promote healthy living and good health practices among the residents.
The three-hour event on the theme “Community Healthcare, A Responsibility for all Stakeholders” started from the Mamprobi Post Office and ended at the Mamprobi Girls Schools.
The exercise was supported by Ghanaian Times and other media partners.
A number of activities including exercise, aerobics and eating of fruits characterised the exercise of the nine-kilometre walk.
Among the personalities that joined the exercise which was attended by hundreds of participants from Tema, Dodowa and corporate executives, was the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Mr Okoe Vanderpuije.
Speaking to reporters after the exercise, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cartel Group of Companies, a Civil Engineering Company, Mr Henry Harry Owoo, said the exercise was to promote good health among the residents of Mamprobi and its environs.
He said the exercise formed part of the programmes of activities of Cartel Foundation to raise awareness on healthy living and good health practices.
Mr Owoo said Cartel Foundation was established this year to support activities and programmes to promote the healthcare of the poor and marginalised in society across the country.
As part of the launch, he said the organisation registered for free more than 1000 residents of Mamprobi onto the National Health Insurance Scheme.
The CEO of Cartel Group of Companies said the health walk had been mainstreamed into the activities of Cartel Foundation and would be held every year during the Farmers’ Day celebration.
He said plans were advanced to extend the health walk to other parts of the country.
Mr Owoo urged the residents of Mamprobi and the country in general to take their health seriously, and exercise regularly and eat a lot of fruits.
He also cautioned against self-medication and urged the residents to visit the hospital for attention when they were sick.
The CEO of Cartel Group of Companies said, as part of the activities outlined for the Cartel Foundation, the organisation would in February next year donate health equipment to either the Children’s Hospital or the Korle Bu Hospital.
Mr Owoo urged other corporate executives, companies and the well-to-do in society to support the healthcare of the poor and marginalised in society.
Some of the participants who spoke to the Ghanaian Times commended Cartel Foundation for the programme.
He said the programme had given them the opportunity to exercise and eat a lot of fruits.
