The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly is determined to complete all ongoing infrastructural projects on schedule.
In furtherance of this, it will prioritise the projects to accelerate development and improve livelihoods.
Besides, work was progressing steadily so as not to impoverish residents.
Ernest Arthur, Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, has expressed the Assembly’s determination to complete all ongoing infrastructural projects to accelerate development.
“It is the priority of the Assembly to ensure abandoned projects are completed while necessary steps will be taken to commence new ones for beneficiaries which are primarily on health, education, roads and sanitation among others dotted in communities to bring relief to the people and attract investment.
“On roads, work is progressing steadily on the 30 roads being rehabilitated under the Sinohydro road projects in the metropolis, some of the inner-city roads have been completed and opened to traffic while drainage, culverts, earthworks, primer and sealing, in some cases walkways and pickup stations are progressing steadily,” Mr Arthur said.
He was elated about the dualisation of Wood Village – CCTU junction road, PPAG traffic light and Brase-Effutu-Mampong road and assured of commitment and dedication of assembly’s support and assistance to completion of the new two-storey Anaafo market that would contain 236 stores, stalls, halls for trading and other businesses including restaurants.
According to him, the facility expected to be completed within 12 months, was being funded by the Coastal Development Authority (CDA) to replace old dilapidated Anaafo Market and executed by Fine Job Company Limited.
Mr Arthur disclosed that the Assembly had begun “Operation Clean Your Frontage”, a sanitation initiative to rid the municipality of filth and green portions of the environment to enhance its aesthetic beauty and improve health.
He noted that the initiative would deploy use of multiple approaches such as campaigns for attitudinal change, enforcement of by-laws and logistics to drive residents not only to keep their immediate surroundings clean but beautify them.
While commending Zoomlion for ensuring environmental cleanliness in the metropolis, Mr Arthur extended invitation to other waste management companies to augment the environmental challenge in the area to avoid communicable diseases and other ailments that retarded progress, growth and development.
He regretted rampant erection of speed ramps with virtually no road signs which were contributing significantly to increasing rate of road crashes. -GNA
