CAF confirm April 5 as date for Champs League, Confederation Cup draws

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the date for the quarter-final draws for both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

The two continental tournaments will have their final group stage matches next weekend, April 1-3, in which the eight teams advancing to the quarterfinals in each will be finalised.

The draw for the quarters will then follow on Tuesday, April 5 at 13.pm GMT.

In the Champions League, no less than seven of the eight slots in the next knockout round have already been accounted for.

Mamelodi Sundowns, Raja Casablanca, ES Setif, Esperance de Tunis, CR Belouizdad, Wydad Casablanca and Petro de Luanda have all secured progression. Only Sundowns are guaranteed top spot in their group and a seeded place in the draw.

The only slot still up for grabs is the runners-up spot behind the South African club in Group A, with reigning champions Al Ahly needing only to avoid defeat at home to Al Hilal in Cairo to complete the quarterfinal line-up.

In the Confederation Cup, five teams have secured progression: Al Ahli Tripoli, Pyramids FC, Orlando Pirates, Al Masry and TP Mazembe.

Group B sides Al Ittihad and JS Saoura are competing for one of the three remaining places, while two will be decided in an open Group D, where all of ASEC Mimosas, RS Berkane, Simba SC and USGN are still in the running. – cafonline
