CAC Road, Paracycling champs takes off today

The 19th Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) Road and Paracycling Championship will take off today at Olebu-Ablekuma in Accra with over 30 cyclists set to battle for glory.
The nine-day championship would begin with regular cycling involving top cyclists in Ghana as they compete with other nationals from over 30 African countries.
Ghana’s current number one cyclist, Anthony Boakye Boafo, top cyclists including Frank Akuffo, Isaac Sackey, Emmanuel Sackey and Victor Kudjo would be determined to give the host a good start to the championship.
Top African countries including South Africa, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Zambia, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Togo, Benin and Nigeria would also give the host riders a run for their money.
The event would be held under the auspices of the Union Cycliste International (UCI), the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS), the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF), the National Sports Authority (NSA) as well as the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC).
The CAC classification championship would also see distinguished cyclists presented with medals.
According to the organisers, aside the regular cycling, 22 para athletes would also have classifications along with Level Two Coaching Course and Mechanic Courses.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the GCF, Mr Dennis Moore who spoke to the Times Sports ahead of the championship said it would be keenly contested by the best on the continent.
He expressed optimism that the event would attract huge patronage and urged Ghanaians to come out in their numbers to support team Ghana.
