Butcher arrested for allegedly murdering colleague over ear piece

A butcher has been arrested by the police in connection with the murder of his colleague during a scuffle over an ear piece, at AkotuJunction, near Kaneshie, in Accra, on Tuesday.

Suspect, Baba Ibrahim, 23, who is in the custody of the police assisting in investigation, was reported to have stabbed Alhassan Zakari, 25, with a broken bottle during the fight.

The Kaneshie Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Edward Faakye-Kumi, confirmed the tragedy to the Ghanaian Times in Accra, yesterday.

He said Tuesday evening Tanko Mohammed assisted by a group of young men in procession of a broken bottle brought to the police station Ibrahim, who had a swollen face and multiple bruises on the arms.

ACP Faakye-Kumi said that Mohammed and the young men reported to the police that at about 8:30 pm, a misunderstanding ensued between Ibrahim and Zakari at Akotu Junction, and the suspect stabbed Zakariwith a broken bottle.

The Police Commander stated that Zakari was rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and suspect was taken to the Kaneshie Poly Clinic for treatment.

ACP Faakye-Kumi said that the suspect was treated and discharged to assist the police in investigation.

He said when a police detective went to the Korle Bu Hospital, he found Zakari dead on a stretcher at the Emergency Centre of the hospital.

ACP Faakye-Kumi said a medical doctor told the investigator that Zakari died while receiving treatment, and the body had been kept in the mortuary at the hospital.
