Burkinabe arrested for alleged theft

The police in the Sissala West District have arrested a 37-year-old Burkinabe, for alleged theft,in the Gbele Park Reserve, near Desime, in the Upper West Region.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Reynolds Manteaw, the Regional Police Crime Officer, said the suspect, SamboJallow Ado, speaks `Mossie’.

ACP Manteaw told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the suspect was handed over to the Tumu Divisional Police, and later taken to the Regional Police Command, in Wa.

He said when the suspect was taken to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, and interrogated, he (Ado) confessed stealing all the items found on him.

ACP Manteaw mentioned five mobile phones, four SIM cards, a solar panel, a single-barreled gun, a bicycle, GHc426 and CFA denomination.

He said the suspect speaking through an interpreter (in ‘Mossi’), told the CID that he travelled from Burkina Faso to Ghana through Jeffissi to find a quiet place to stay in the forest.

ACP Manteaw said Sambo led the police to a herdsman, AlhajiAbubakerAbdullahi, at Welembelle, who claimed ownership of the phone and a bicycle, found with Ado.

The Regional Crime Officer mentioned that Ado claimed he took the gun with BB cartridges from an abandoned hut.

ACP Manteaw said Alhaji Abdullahi has been granted police inquiry bail,and Ado would be put before court for stealing and unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm.

He commended the people for assisting the police to assist Ado, and urged the public to call the toll-free line, 18555, any time they see something strange, especially “communities on the borderline, to help secure the country from the threat of terrorism being experienced by neighbouring countries.” -GNA
