Boost for handball clubs

The Greater Accra Handball Association (GAHA) on Wednesday received a total of 51 balls from the National Sports Authority (NSA) to be distributed among the various handball clubs.

At a short ceremony at the Accra Sports Stadium, each of the 12 handball clubs received three balls.

On hand to receive their balls were teams from the police, prisons, Fire Service, Great Fingers, Armed Forces, El wak Wings, Kasland, and Cantonment handball Club.

The balls were donated by the Handball Association’s mother body the International Handball Federation (IHF) about four months ago but the inability of the Ghana Handball Association to clear it from the ports meant they had to fall on the NSA to bail them out.

Presenting the balls to the GAHA, NSA boss, Professor Peter Twumasi intimated that the gesture was a way of assuring the lesser known sports of his outfits support.

He said the construction of the multisport facilities in the regions was an indication of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYs) resolve to develop facilities for the various disciplines.

Chairman of the GAHA, Kofi Yesu Dadzie, thanked the NSA for coming to their aid and assured that the balls will be put to good use.

There was also a trophy presentation to the Prison’s men and women handball teams for winning the 2018 Men and Women handball leagues, respectively.
