Bono Minister supports para taekwondo athletes

The Bono Regional Minister, Mrs Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson, has donated an unspecified amount of money to the national para taekwondo team.

She made the gesture when the Para Committee called on her to ask for support for the para camping ahead of the Tokyo 2020 paralympic taekwondo qualifiers in Morocco later this month.

The team has been on partial camping since January 2 and is currently having residential camping in Sunyani and proceeds to Accra to continue. 

Mrs Richardson after presenting the cash promised to support the team in the future, having been briefed on the plight of the athletes.

Chairman of the Para Committee, Rev Samuel Annor thanked the Minister and appealed to others to come to the aid of para taekwondo.

“It’s refreshing to get such support from the Regional Minister. I cannot thank her enough for what she’s done for us. I also want to appeal to the corporate bodies and individuals touched by the plight of these athletes to come and support us.” 

The para team finalized their training and traveling preparations in Accra on Sunday and is set to depart for the tournament on February 18, 2020.

Athletes traveling for the qualifiers include Emmanuel Kofi Turkson, Mohammed Salih Azumah, Patricia Kyeremaa and Adizatu Shaban.

The African para-taekwondo qualification tournament is scheduled for the Complexe Sportif Moulay Abdelah in Rabat Morocco on February 23-24, 2020.
