Bono East MDAs to use ICT in revenue mobiliSation, communication from Jan 2022

The various Municipal and District Assemblies in the Bono East Region will from January 2022, apply Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) as a tool for revenue mobilisation and communication, among the delivery of other government services.

MrAduGyan, the Bono East Regional Minister, made the disclosure on Friday at the meeting of the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) held at Techiman, to take stock of the council’s activities and achievements.

It was attended by Heads of the various Departments and Agencies in the region, Presiding Members, MDCEs, officials of the RCC, journalists and other key stakeholders.

The Regional Minister said the meeting was organised as part of the RCC’s obligations towards the strengthening of decentralised system of governance, deepen participation and harmonise their plans and programmes, to achieve development of the region.

 According to MrAduGyan, the move would avoid excessive leakages in key revenue sources such as market places, lorry parks, local councils and property rates among other areas,to improve on their internal revenue mobilisation.

“As a pace setter, my first meeting with the MDCEs nominees was held via Zoom. We also used software in the election of the Dean of the MDCEs”

“Most of our meetings are now held on media platforms to save time and resources for socio-cultural development of the area” he added.

The Regional Minister noted that the German International Cooperation (GIZ) has completed imagery and documentation works on properties in most of the municipalities in the region.

He indicated that the RCC and GIZ would roll out a unified platform for the collection of property rates and that a test phase will be conducted in December this year.

 MrAduGyan added that skills development and capacity building in ICT for all the assemblies will be organised before the end of this year saying that “digitisation is the driving force for accelerated development.”

The meeting deliberated on issues including security, Bono East Development Company (BEDEC), water and sanitation, health infrastructure, roads,human capital development, agriculture and industrialisation, governance and administration among others.

MrAduGyan expressed gratitude to past and present stakeholders for supporting the activities of the region,to be adjudged third best performing RCC in Ghana, and Nkoranza North as the best performing district in the country in the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) rankings.
