BlueCrest College, a private tertiary institution, on Friday held its 24th matriculation for about 200 fresh students admitted to pursue various certificate, diploma, degree and Master’s programmes.
The students, both Ghanaians and foreigners, were led by the Registrar of the College, Mr Eric Hanson, to take the matriculation oath.
The Rector of the College, Dr Sujith Jayaprakesh, said the key focus of the college was self-imposed discipline rather than externally-imposed among the students to enable them become responsible.
He said the college was anchored on leadership, innovation, technology and entrepreneurship, which makes it unique in the academic arena.
According to the Rector, the world was evolving and with technology as the basic tool that drove the world, the college was ready to give exposure to students on practice-based training to enable them to meet requirements of the job market upon graduation.
“The whole world is matching towards the fourth and 15th industrial revolution that technology is playing a key role in, so gone were the days when technology was independent but now much as every single person is involved, and so as an institution, we ensure that the students get these skills while they are in school to become professionals on the job market,” he added.
Dr Jayaprakesh urged students to take advantage of the digital approach to learning which the school had initiated to enhance their knowledge and build their capacity as future leaders.
The Registrar of the College said the college had an innovative and flexible approach towards academic instructions that incorporated multiple programme paths to suit future aspirations of students.
Mr Hanson said though all programmes were directed at training students to become seasoned in their chosen fields, they were also developed to promote self-employment for them to be successful entrepreneurs.
He indicated that the college had a generous scholarship for meritorious applicants and students who excelled academically and was anticipating to have an internship programme next year, where students would be sent to some Asian countries such as India and Dubai to learn different things aside their courses of studies.
The Academic Dean of the College, Professor Thomas Buabeng Assan, admonished the students to abide by the rules and regulations of the institutions and instill discipline throughout their stay to ensure academic excellence.
“You are therefore expected to exhibit high sense of discipline while in the university. The university will not award its degree to students who are found wanting in character and in learning.
“You are forewarned that to earn the degree of the university, you must be disciplined in addition to studying hard,” he added.
A student, Ms Charlotte Liquenda Cleland, on behalf of the matriculants, expressed gratitude for the opportunity given them and assured the school authorities that they would stay focused and abide by the rules and regulations of the college so that they could excel in their fields of discipline.
