Black Wonders commence preparation for Kenya 2021

The national deaf football team, the Black Wonders has commenced camping in Accra to prepare for the Africa deaf football championship to be staged in Kenya in September.

Twenty players have been invited by the technical team led by Head Coach, Winfred Chartey Annan.

Based at the YMCA facility in Accra, the team will engage in a few trial games to work on their fitness and condition for the next three weeks before leaving for Kenya for the championship.

Mr Ransford Lartey, Communication Director for the team told the Times Sports yesterday that the team will leave for Kenya on September 9 for the championship that also serves as qualifier for the football event of the Brazil 2022 Deaflympic Games.

According to Mr Lartey, Ghana’s target for the games was to snatch one of the three slots allocated Africa at the games and would work seriously towards it.

“Qualification is our top priority. We are very confident about it. We believe we can even win the championship looking at our credentials on the continent as far as deaf football in Africa was concerned.”

He appealed to corporate organisations to support the team in kind and in cash especially as they aim to conquer Africa and make an appearance in Brazil to also display their brand of football.

Head Coach of the team, Winfred Chartey Annan, in an interview expressed satisfaction about the players’ attitude in camp and the determination they have shown.

“You can see the zeal and hunger in each and every one of them. That is the attitude we expect to see. This is a big platform for them to exhibit their talent to the whole world.”

Based on previous experience at similar championships, Coach Annan reckons a very difficult task at hand but was confident his boys would overcome any challenge they encounter.

As two-time two winners of the WAFU Cup and silver medalist in Africa, Coach Annan believes his team will conquer Africa to book a slot for Brazil and appealed to individuals and companies to sponsor the team.
