Students of Bishop Herman College at Kpando in the Volta Region heaved a sigh of relief when they were gifted 70 Information Technology equipment by the 1991/93 Year Group of Bishop Herman Old Boys Union (BHOBU 91/93) of the school.
It was to solve one of the many challenges facing the school and improve the teaching and learning of ICT.
The devices include 53 desktop computers and accessories, 15 laptops, and a projector.
The donation brought a much-needed relief to the school which had until the gesture been relying on only 23 computers for 165 students in the final year offering ICT as an elective subject.
There are over 350 other students in the first and second years also offering ICT as an elective.
Handing over the items, a member of the year group, Mr Komla Ofori, said the donation came on the back of the group’s realisation that computers were an immediate need of the school and so sought to procure same for an institution which had played a significant role in their development.
He emphasised the importance of technology and said it was therefore important the school was not left behind in the current technological evolution.
He said the donation was made possible through contributions by members of the year group.
The headmaster of the school, Mr Francis Dominic Kudolo, who received the donation described it as a timely intervention especially, at a time when final year students were preparing for their ICT examinations in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
“We have about 165 of them doing ICT and when it happens like that when it comes to examinations, we have to be running round looking for laptops from individuals to augment the number that we have for practical.
So, this gesture is a timely one for which we are grateful.”
He expressed gratitude to the 91/93 Year Group for the kind gesture and assured that the equipment would be put to good use while ensuring their longevity.
The Head of ICT Department, Mr Peter KevegeVinyo, said the gesture by the year group will enable the students to have computers to practise on, and to explore the several other applications that will broaden their horizon, knowledge and skill in ICT.
