Berry Ladies dare Hasaacas Ladies …in Women’s Premier League

The second round of the Malta Guinness-sponsored Women’s Premier League kicks off this weekend across various League centres with the top-liner being southern zone leaders, Hasaacas Ladies, trekking to the Madina Astro turf to face Berry Ladies today.

Hasaacas Ladies will hope to bounce back from the shock 1-0 defeat to fellow joint table toppers Faith Ladies last week.

Games between the two sides have gone the way of the visitors. Hasaaacas enjoyed full marks last season when they profited from a Doreen Copson’s 79th minute strike to steal victory at the same venue last season. However, this time around, the mojo in the camp of the Hasmal girls seems to have died down a little and would take something special to get past a rejuvenated Berry Ladies – who have back-to-back victories under their belt going into this game.

Victory in their last two games have seen them move from eighth to fifth position on the log, and they would be looking for all three points to push them into the top-four.

All eyes would be on Berry Ladies’ new signing, Rahama Jafaru, a former player of Hasaacas Ladies who will be looking to aid her new side to grind a famous victory over the leaders for the first time on home soil.

Second placed side in the zone, Faith Ladies, looks likely to pick another three points when they welcome host Soccer Intellectuals to their favourites Carl Reindolf Park today.

Considering their current form, Faith Ladies appear the better side on paper going into this game and also have what it takes to see off their guests who have managed just two wins, two draws and five losses in their last nine League matches, which sees them sit in eighth place on the log.

Faith Ladies will be looking the way of back-to-back NASCO Most Valuable Player winner, Maafia Nyame, to help see off the visitors, with a win. Seeing them jump to the summit of the log, the host would stop at nothing just to have a feel of the top spot, even if it is for some few hours.

At the Mankessim Astro Turf, it would be a battle of two debutants when Essiam Socrates host Ridge City in a game that has a home win written all over it even before kick-off.

This stems from how Essiam Socrates disciplined Ridge City at their own backyard 3-0 in the first round and since them, they have gone on an embarrassing nine matches defeat which sees them sit at the bottom of the log with a paltry two points.

Struggling Police Ladies will return to their Achimota School Park to plot the fall of Thunder Queens, who lie two points above them on the log.

As one of the pioneer teams of the women’s game in the country, a lot has always been expected from Police Ladies, but their first round showing in the league has left much to be desired.

The inconsistent and lacklustre performance has seen them drop from being among the top two teams in the zone to a relegation threatened side as they currently occupy the penultimate position in the 10-team league.

Thunder Queens shocked Police Ladies 2-1 in the first round tie, and Police Ladies would be on a revenge mission if they are to have any better chance of surviving the drop.

Army Ladies host Ladystrikers at the Teshie MATS Park tomorrow.

The Northern zone will see Prisons Ladies locking horns with Pearl Pia Ladies at the Sunyani Coronation Park; Ashtown Ladies will host Tamale Super Ladies at the Bantama Kookoase Astroturf today, debutants – Candy Soccer will take on Kumasi-based Supreme Ladies at Dormaa Park tomorrow with Dreamz Ladies also engaging Fabulous Ladies in the Kumasi derby at the Bantama Kookoase Astroturf tomorrow
