Benzema fumes over FIFA award snub

Karim Benzema’s apparent ongoing disdain at being snubbed for FIFA’s ‘The Best’ award on Monday evening appears to have continued with the Frenchman doubling-down on his social media.

Benzema previously posted a video on Instagram in the immediate aftermath of Messi winning saying, in Benzema’s native tongue, “Liar, yes, you liar.”

That update was accompanied by the words ‘good night’ as a caption at the bottom of the video.

Now the serial title-winner has again demonstrated his annoyance at finishing second in the standings for the individual award recognising the world’s best player over the course of the last year.

Argentina’s World Cup winning captain, Lionel Messi, unsurprisingly clinched top spot, after his national team heroics, while Kylian Mbappe finished second in the votes.

Benzema’s latest social media update saw the 35-year-old be more direct than his other posts as he shared two images that appear to reference the awards.

The first picture is a screenshot showing all of his personal and team achievements over the last year in an apparent dig that his efforts should have seen him lift the individual accolade, not Messi.

Some of the statistics show his 63 goals-haul, 21 assists, and status as the current Ballon d’Or holder alongside 15 other separate points highlighting his contributions to Real Madrid and the France national team.

This update was followed by a second post of a smiling Benzema again captioned with the words ‘bonne nuit’ that is translated to ‘good night’ in an apparent show that the statistics do enough of the arguing on this behalf.

The 35-year-old veteran striker endured a stunning 2021-22 campaign that saw his outstanding goalscoring feats lead Real Madrid to their 14th Champions League crown. —Sportsmail
