…begins tour of Eastern Region

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has cut sod for the reconstruction of 47.0kilometreMpraeso-Hwehwe Oyimso roads and upgrading of 1.0 kilometre to 20.1Kilometres Begoro-Feyiasi roads in the Eastern Region.

The project, estimated at a cost of $77,411,202.55 and  funded by COCOBOD would be undertaken by Messrs Maripoma Enterprise Limited and expected to be completed by July 2023.

The road, located in the Kwahu East and South districts, when completed, would bring relief to both motorists and pedestrians, and reduce vehicle operating cost as well as reduce travelling time and facilitate the movement of goods and services.

It would also serve as alternative link to Ashanti Region through Oyimso to Asante Akyem Agogo.

Likewise, communities on the Begoro–Feyiase Road, include Begoro, Apaa, Feyiase would also benefit from the construction.

President Akufo-Addo cut the sod during his first three-day tour of the Eastern Region which he started on Tuesday.

During the period, he would inspect ongoing projects, inaugurate completed ones and cut sod for others to commence.

After the sod-cutting, the President paid a courtesy call on the Obohene and Nifahene of Kwahu Traditional Area, Osabarima Yeboah Afari Obougyan.

There, he assured that all town roads would be completed soon to remove all inconveniences the road had caused the people of the area and its environs.

“We have all witnessed that the reconstruction has started and I assure you that all roads will be constructed,” he said.

The President assured that all other projects needed to be completed would be done.

He thanked the chiefs and people of Kwahu, especially Obo for their support over the years and assured that he would do his best for them by the end of his tenure.

The Obohene and Nifahene of Kwahu Traditional Area, Osabarima Yeboah Afari Obuogyan commended the President for the reconstruction of the roads and was hopeful it would be completed soon to eradicate all inconveniences caused by the roads.

He, however, appealed to the President to provide a police station for the area to improve security.

He revealed that he had made efforts by renting a place to be used as police station which to him was not the best, and appealed that a proper station would be built for them.

The President previously inspected phase one of ongoing renovation works at the 52- bed capacity Atibie Government Hospital.

The renovation works at the hospital would improve access to quality health care in the area.

Phase one of the project would see renovation of the maternity ward, theatre and OPD of the hospital.

The Medical Superintendent of the Atibie Government Hospital, Dr Awortwe Wiredu said the 73- year -old hospital which serves about 200 communities was facing challenges of inadequate infrastructure.

He was confident that the renovation would enhance the provision of quality health care, and bring relief to patients and health personnel.

The President expressed the hope that the second phase would be approved for renovation.

Project Manager for the renovation works, Micheal Oerlemus said the project would be completed in the next three months.
