Bechem United coach, 2 others fined GH¢9,000

Bechem United’s Head Coach, Kweku Danso has been handed a three match ban and a fine of GH¢5,000 after the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) found him guilty of a misconduct charge in their match day eight league game against Medeama.

Also found culpable of similar offenses were two team officials of the club, Osei Bonsu Collins and Godfred Yeboah Berko.

In its ruling last week, the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee, Coach Danso was found guilty on four counts of misconduct in the game that was honoured on February 5 with Bechem United accepting the FA’s ruling and pleaded for mitigation when served with the charge of misconduct against the three club officials.

On the first count, the Committee stated that coach Danso interfered with proceedings of the match when in the 88th minute; he made disparaging comments about the referee, which led to a temporary hold-up; contrary to Regulation 34(1) (a) of the GFAPremier League Regulations of 2019.

On the second count, Coach Danso was found to have incited his players against the match officials- an action contravening Regulation 34(1) (b) of the Premier League Regulations and Article 11(1) of the GFA Disciplinary Code of 2019.

Particulars of the offence also indicated that after Medeama scored their lone goal and the referee was about to restart play, the Bechem Head Coach led the two other officials of the club onto the field of play to question the Referee’s decision to add 15 minutes of stoppage time after 90 minutes of play had been exhausted.

Coach Danso was found guilty again on the third count for hurling abusive language against match officials after the game which according to the Committee impugned their integrity and competence contrary to Regulation 34(3)(c) of the GFA Premier League Regulations of 2019 and Articles 11(2) (b) and 11(2) (d) of the GFA Disciplinary Code of 2020.

On the final count, Coach Danso was alleged to have made remarks that impugned improper conduct and bias on the part of the Referee, bringing the game into disrepute and in contravention of Regulation 34(6) (d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations.

The two officials who were complicit in Coach Danso’s actions received two match bans and a GH¢2,000 fine each which must be paid 14 days after receiving the ruling.

The decision means that eight-placed Bechem United will miss their gaffer in a crunch marathon of away fixtures at WAFA , Karela and Sharks when the league resumes at a yet-to-be- announced date.

The league has been put on hold due to the corona virus pandemic that has grinded sporting activities across the globe to a halt.
