The Attorney-General (A-G) and Minister of Justice has asked the Tema High Court to refuse the bail application filed by lawyers for Oliver Barker-Vormawor, because accused is not cooperating with police investigators.
Godfred Yeboah Dame, the A-G, in his response to the bail application, said Barker-Vormawor, who has been charged with treason felony, had no fixed place of abode also refused to obey an order of the court to grant police access to his mobile phone.
Counsel for accused, Dr Srem Sai, was expected to move the motion for bail on Thursday, but the court adjourned the case to March 14, to enable the lawyers respond to the A-G’s opposition to bail.
Last week, the Supreme Court (SC) advised Dr Sai, to seek bail for his client at the High Court.
This was after Dr Sai urged the SC to quash the decision of the Tema High Court of February 19, which dismissed an Harbeas Corpus application brought against the A-G and the Inspector General of Police.
Mr Barker-Vormawor, the convener of #FixTheCountry Movement, was arrested on February 11, 2022, for a post he allegedly posted on a social media platform on February 9, that he would stage a coup should the E-Levy Bill be passed by Parliament.
The police said Mr Barker-Vormawor’s “post contained a clear statement of intent with a possible will to execute a coup in his declaration of intent to subvert the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.”
He first appeared at the court on February 14, but his plea was not been taken.
Some supporters of the movement carrying placards waited in the court premises in solidarity with their leader, while police in riot gear watched with eagle eye to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, the accused was taken ill on Wednesday and treated at the Police Hospital.
