Barber jailed 10 years for defiling girl, 15

A barber who defiled a 15-year-old mentally retarded girl at Adenta Housing Down has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.

This was after Osman Alhassan, 28, was found guilty on the charge of defilement by the court presided by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku..

The judgement was, however, read by Mrs Harriet Jane Akweley Quaye another Circuit Court Judge.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the complainant is a trader residing at Adenta Housing Down with the victim, who is her granddaughter.

The court heard that the convict reside within the same vicinity with the complainant.

Chief Insp Atimbire said on March 7, last year, at about 10.30 am, the complainant gave the victim money to go barber her hair at Alhassan’s barbering shop.

He said the complainant waited for the victim, but she did not returned and when he went to the barbering shop he did not find the victim nor the convict. 

Chief Insp Atimbire said the complainant went to the convict’s house and met him (Alhassan) and the victim standing in front of tAlhassan’s main gate.

The court heard that the victim the victim informed complainant that Alhassan after barbering the girl invited her to his house and had sexual intercourse with her.

Chief Insp Atimbire a report was made to the police, and a medical report form was issued to the complainant to take the victim to the hospital for examination. -GNA
