Banker allegedly stabs fetish priest

A banker, Kojo Gbongbo, who allegedly stabbed a fetish priest, Seidu Awudi, was on Wednesday admitted to self-recognisance bail by the Ho Magistrate Court 1.

Gbongbo, staff of Ho branch of the Access Bank in the Volta Region, supposedly knifed Awudi, who performed rituals for his deities, in the head during a row between them over the filming of the rites.

• Accused – Kojo Gbongbo

Gbongbo, who pleaded not guilty to causing harm, denied the offence in his caution statement.

Inspector Benjamin Amoako told the court presided over by Mr Kwesi Appiatse Abaiddo that the incident took place at a house at Ho-Ahoe in which the priest and the parents of the accused lived, on December 23, 2021.

Prosecution said that at about 5:20 pm after the priest had finished performing the rituals, the accused visited his parents and saw the items used by the priest for the rituals in the house.

Insp. Amoako said the accused started making video recording of the items with his cellular phone and Awudi, the priest, asked the accused why he was taking a video recording of the items.

The court heard that in the process, the priest collected the cellular phone from the accused.

Insp. Amoako said the accused became offended, attacked and stabbed the priest in the head with a key.

According to prosecution, a report was made to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused.

Gbongbo is expected to reappear before court on January 27.
