The government will soon establish a senior high school in the Ayawaso West Municipality, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ayawaso West, Madam Sandra Owusu Ahinkorah has assured.
This she said would enable the area benefit from the government’s free SHS programme.
Madam Owusu Ahinkorah disclosed this at the 62nd Independence Day celebration in Accra on Wednesday, on the theme “Celebrating Peace and Unity.”
The programme which was the maiden celebration of the newly created assembly brought together stakeholders in the educational sector, traditional authorities and about 600 pupils from 20 public and private basic schools.
She indicated that the lack of a secondary facility in the Ayawaso municipality, which has Dzowolu as the capital, led to a lot of pupils travelling distance places to access education, adding that “this has hindered educational development of the people.”
“Every child deserves to benefit from the free SHS hence the need to construct an SHS to absorb the numerous pupils that will graduate from the junior high school in the area,” she added.
She stated that her outfit was partnering with educational institutions and other stakeholders to improve upon the existing infrastructure facilities to make education more accessible to the people.
“Lack of secondary school in the municipality increase pressure and tension therefore my assembly is working with ministry of education to build SHS to decrease pressure on the existing SHS,” She said.
As part of the government’s determination to ensure every Ghanaian child get access to quality education, the MCE posited that government would build and improve educational infrastructures in various schools across the country to eliminate the double track system.
The Member of Parliament (MP) of the area, Madam Lydia Seyram Alhassan, on her part promised to help two public school teachers to further their education for them to impart more knowledge into pupils and also improve teaching and learning.
She advised the pupils to take their education serious to benefit from the flagship SHS programme and called on parents to monitor their wards to ensure that they have adequate time for their books.
