Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly fails to meet revenue target

The Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly failed to meet its revenue target for 2018 fiscal year.

The newly created assembly generated GH¢565,000 out of the targeted GH¢756,000.

Mr Michael Agyeman, the Planning Officer of the Assembly disclosed this in his presentation at the maiden town hall meeting in Accra yesterday.

The meeting brought together participants from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, assembly members, personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Council members from Zongo and chiefs to deliberate on issues affecting the assembly and chart the way forward.

Mr Agyeman attributed the shortfall in revenue target to limited staff and the late commencement of the operations of the assembly.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Awayaso East, Hajia Salma Mohammed Kuta in her remarks said Section 42(b) of the Local Governance Service Act provides that assemblies engage communities in town hall meetings on matters relating to programmes, projects and other activities bothering on the functions of the assembly.

She said the meetings would enable the assembly to educate the public on its functions and provide feedback to the stakeholders on the status of programmes and projects.

Hajia Kuta assured that the assembly would work hard to ensure development in the municipality.

She called on stakeholders to partner the assembly to ensure development.

The Coordinating Director of the assembly, Nii Armah Ashitey said the assembly was created a year ago and it was very crucial to give account to the public and interact with stakeholders.

He said the meeting would enhance grassroots participation and accountable governance.
