Ayawaso East Assembly undertakes devt project

At least eight out of the 10 development projects being executed by the Ayawaso East Municipality are at various stages of completion.

Some of the projects, awarded since November 2018, included the renovation of the Assembly Office block, the installation and extension of street lights in Nima and Kanda.

Addressing the assembly in Accra last Wednesday, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hajia Salma Mohammed SaniKuta-Adams, expressed the hope that all the projects would be completed by the end of the year.

According to her, the municipality continued to advance at a steady pace with the total staff currently at 154, with the assembly having eight out of the legally required 13 functioning departments.

She said the assembly would this year undertake nine new projects, including the complete fence wall at the Nima Government Clinic, construction of a Police post in Kanda and procurement of 500 mono and dual desks for schools in the municipality.

On sanitation and waste management, she said the assembly had signed a service agreement with Zoomlion for the supply of two skip trucks and 11 containers.

The MCE added that the assembly was undertaking the Greater Accra Resilient Integrated Development (GARID) Project, aimed at addressing a long-term goal of flooding and solid waste management.

The assembly, she said had also benefited from the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA) project for the construction and installation of household toilet facilities, with GAMA absorbing three quarters of the cost with one quarter spread to the beneficiary households, she added.

Hajia Kuta-Adams said the management of the assembly was collaborating with stakeholders to embark on a decongestion exercise to remove encroachers and squatters for free movement of vehicles and people in the area.

The MCE said the assembly had begun an exercise to identify all empty stores/stalls in the Nima Market for re-allocation, in order to reduce the number of traders on the streets.
